23rd International West Kent Run
December Update (9 December 2006)
(Archive of past Updates)

£2500 goes to the Heart of Kent Hospice.

The West Kent Section was pleased to present a cheque for £2500 to the Heart of Kent Hospice from the proceeds of the 2006 event.  The Hospice is within the grounds of Preston Hall, about one mile from the Friars at Aylesford.  Peter Firth, Ron Wright, Karen and Rod Smith made the presentation on Saturday 9th December.

The West Kent Run has always had the aim of being self-sufficient financially and has usually seen a small surplus in funds. We have been pleased, in recent years, to have been able to make a donation to local charities amounting to several thousand pounds.  Thank you for your continued support for the event, which has benefited these local causes.

Prices confirmed.

The prices for 2007 have now been confirmed.  The riders and passengers entry fees have been raised by £1, to £25 and £19 respectively.  The only other change is the price of the accommodation.  A single room remains unchanged at £16 per night, whilst the rate in a double room will be £14 per person per night.  We hope that entrants will still feel that the event offers value for money.  The entry form has been altered and is ready for you to print off.

Reminder of next year's dates.

The date for 2007 is 2 - 7 August at The Friars at Aylesford.  I think we shall have another record entry.

Entries received

I have already received our first three entries for next year.  The very first entry is from Peter Chantler, who lives in Congleton in Cheshire.  This will be Peter's first visit to the West Kent Run and we look forward to welcoming him.  He will be riding a 1950 Sunbeam S8.   I am now awaiting your entry form - print it off and send it in.

Interest from new riders

I was pleased to receive an email from Piet Trompenaars of the Maico club of the Netherlands.  Piet is organising a tour of the South-East of England next year and wants to come to the West Kent Run.  He hopes to bring as many as ten bikes.  Piet is the rider in the foreground on the 1962 Bundeswehr model and his brother-in-law is riding the 1956 Blizzard.  Both are 250cc two-strokes - so they get my vote !

Invite your Friends

Now is the time to tell your friends about the West Kent Run.  Most of our riders are old friends who come every year, but we always welcome new faces.  Print off an entry form and send it to them.

Best Wishes from Alan Abrahams and the West Kent Run Committee.
