26th International West Kent Run
December Update (1st December 2009)
(Archive of past Updates)

It is significant that the early entries received so far are almost all from riders who have booked a room.  If you want a room at The Friars, please book early.  There are only 50 rooms.  See the riders list to see how many rooms have already been booked.

I have also highlighted the pre-war bikes.  We are trying very hard to increase the balance between older and newer machines - what can you bring ?

We extend a special welcome to Ed Byrne who will ride his Ex-works TT Rudge from Dublin to join us.  He is - to the best of my recollection - our first entrant from Eire.

You will also notice that we have a good number of Rudges entered already.  The more the merrier.  What about pre war Matchless, Panther, Calthorpe, James, Francis-Barnett and other less-often-seen models ?

We are always pleased to see flat-tankers too.  It is the Vintage Motor Cycle Club after all !

You will be pleased to hear that the British Heart Foundation has been successful in raising funds to buy the heart monitor that has been the focus of their fund-raising this year.  Members of the West Kent Run Committee will be present at the official 'handing over' ceremony and our cheque, for more than £3000 has helped to secure the equipment that will be used all across the Medway area.  The money we raised came from the receipts for the Sunday Show.

We are looking for local members to help with the organisation of the event.  There are many activities that a small group could organise.

For example -

Preparing, cooking and serving the food at the Thursday barbecue.

Signing on and signing off the participants.

Distributing the souvenir pennants on Sunday.

Selling the T shirts.

Helping on the gate on Sunday.

Organizing and assisting at the awards presentation.

Assisting with the preparation of the marquee for its various roles.

If you would like to assist with these, or in any other way, please contact Ron Wright.  He will be very pleased to hear from you.  As they say 'many hands make light work.'  We have a hard working team of volunteers who assist on the days before and after the event but there are always other opportunities.  Most of these jobs are self-contained and would not require attendance at regular committee meetings.

Ron Wright can be contacted by phone on 01622-812771 or by letter at

'Fairmile', Forge Lane, West Peckham.  Maidstone ME18 5JP

Best Wishes from Alan Abrahams and the West Kent Run Committee.
