21st International West Kent Run
May Update (5.5.05)
(Archive of past Updates)
The route
David Brindley is planning our routes this year. He has been unwell but
now has the route complete. Maps will be added to this site soon.
Notable entries include
- Raleigh tradesman's bicycle powered by Cyclemaster engine.
Owner Maurice Drew has elected to follow the short route.
- Dave Richmond will ride an A.E.R. two stroke. He has been
working on it for years and, at last it's ready.
- Regular entrant Bill Robson always rides small capacity bikes. Last
year it was the 50cc Bown moped. This year he rides a 1924 French
Armor.
- Colin Stevens has entered a 1933 Royal Enfield Model B 250cc.
Times were tough in 1933 and not a lot of small capacity bikes from that time
survived.
- Brothers Bernard and Dave Smith will ride Adlers.
- Dave's 1954 MB250 was the first Adler to be imported (privately) into
the country.
- Bernard's 1955 MB250 was damaged in a collision on the 2000 West Kent
Run but has been repaired with the aid of a donor bike.
- Two riders - Peter Lee and Peter Davidson will travel all the way from
Cornwall to join us. Derek Raistrick is making the journey from
Middlesbrough.
- The only wartime bikes entered, so far, are a 1940 Speed Twin and a
1944 BSA WM20. Do you know anyone with a wartime bike who might
join us ?
- We have three 50cc sports mopeds from the 70's
Missing years -missing makes !
Every year we hope to get as comprehensive a list of motorcycles as possible.
This year we are missing bikes from 1922, 1932, 1941 / 42 / 43, 1945, 1965 and
1977. There are 3 entries for 1921 but only a single 1914 Douglas before
that.
Where are all the vintage and post-vintage Scotts, Matchless, Panther,
Raleigh, Sunbeam, James etc ?

Note: This is not the total pre-war entry (there are some
fabulous unusual machines too) but it does show some big gaps amongst the
'popular' makes. Can you get onto a friend to bring out a machine to fill
these gaps ?
