21st International West Kent Run
April Update (4.4.05)
Entries
The printed forms were delayed but now entries are coming in quickly.
36% are pre-war machines. Oldest, so far, are 1921 AJS, BSA and Martinsyde.
31% of the entrants are from overseas. Entries from Spain, Poland and the
Czech Republic are expected soon.
We have a limit of 350 entrants (with pillion riders that makes ± 500 on the
road). If you are hoping to enter - hurry !.
Arrangements at Aylesford
2004 was our first year at
The Friars. We learned a lot and, following your
suggestions, we have made some changes.
- Breakfast - Full breakfast will be available every
morning in the Pilgrims Hall. You will be able to pay when you have
breakfast - no more tickets from Alan Abrahams (hooray !)
A light breakfast will be available from the thatched barn cafeteria on
Saturday and Sunday mornings.
- Camping - The camping field will be bigger this year
so you will have more room. We shall probably locate the marquee nearer
to the camping field too so you will not have to walk so far to get your beer.
- The Barn conversion - The old barn (next
to the cafeteria) is being rebuilt. It is due to be finished before our
event but we cannot be sure it will be. We shall have a marquee for our
social events as before. Next year we hope to use the barn.
The route
David Brindley is planning our routes this year. A lot of riders have
chosen to follow the 70 mile route. We are heading eastwards and hope to reach
roads that we have never used before.
- Coffee - We shall visit the
Rare Breeds Centre at Woodchurch for our coffee stop. We were made very welcome in the year of
Foot and Mouth Disease and look forward to a less restricted visit this year.
The
Canterbury Oast Trust, which runs the Centre, does very valuable work with
people with learning disabilities, several of whom will be working on
the day of our visit.
- Lunch - We shall make a return to
Beech Court Garden, Challock for our lunch. Mrs. Miller-Thomas was very pleased to welcome
us back. It is several years since we were last there.
- Tea - The tearooms will be open longer this year so
everyone can get a cup of tea at the end of the run.
The website
- Translated pages - I have attempted to
translate the important website pages into the common European languages.
Please let me know if you spot errors so that they can be changed. I
would like the pages to be as good as they can be. Czech (what a
language !) and Danish pages are coming soon, once I have had the drafts
checked. I hope the pages will help to reach overseas riders and
encourage them to join us.
- Who has been looking ? - People in
Canada, Australia, Japan, Argentina and Brazil.
