Riders' Final Instructions
for the

2005 International West Kent Run

What's my riding number ?

Thank you for your entry.  We welcome you especially if this is your first visit to the West Kent Run.  We hope that you enjoy your weekend and that it will become the first of many.

The event is based at The Friars at Aylesford.  The Friars is easily accessible from the M20 (Junction 6 - A229) and from the M2 (Junction 3 - A229).  Brown signs will lead you to the site.  Aylesford village has a very narrow High Street controlled by traffic lights.  The brown signs lead you on a detour that avoids the village centre.  Follow the signs for easy trailer and caravan access.

There is a shop, several pubs and a restaurant in the village.

The Ordnance Survey Map reference is:-  1:50,000 Sheet 188.  TQ 724 591 (Entrance)

Follow our VMCC signs when you enter the site.  Please drive very carefully as there will be many visitors, including children on site.

Please do run run your engine or ride your bike around the site except to enter and leave.  The Friars is a very tranquil place and it is important that we respect this.

West Kent Run on Saturday morning.

  • Please park your bike on your riding number in the start area before you Sign-On.  Sign-On at the Signing-On table near the marquee from 08.00.  It will be possible for campers and room guests to Sign-On on Friday so that it is not so busy on Saturday.
  • When you Sign-On you will receive your riding number, route sheets, tickets and programme (and pre-ordered T-shirts)

Signing-Off
The Signing-Off table will be manned (or womanned) from 15.30.  Please take your time on the Run - it's not a race !.  There are no prizes for being first back.  There is plenty of time to enjoy the coffee and lunch stops.  When you Sign-Off you will receive your souvenir pennant.  Signing-Off will finish at 17.30.  We have made arrangements for the tea to be available later than last year but they cannot wait for you indefinitely !

Thursday
A working party will prepare the field.  We were pleased to see so many helpers last year.  If you can spare a few hours it speeds all the tasks.  Meet at the marquee from 10.00.

An evening social run is being organised and will return at 20.30 for a barbecue.  Start time will be displayed during the day.

Friday
The working party will continue to prepare the field.  All offers of help will be welcomed from 10.00.  Another team will be putting up the route arrows.  If you can spare some time to help it will reduce the number of miles each team member has to cover.  Please contact Alan Abrahams as soon as possible if you can help.

A social run will leave at 10.30 and will return at 15.30.  Pub lunch at midday - you buy your own.

The Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling and the VMCC Chief Executive James Hewing will join us for our evening reception from 19.30. in the marquee.  Following the formalities there will be live music.  We hope that as many of you as possible will join us.  Food will be available to ticket holders.  Tickets are free but must be ordered, in advance, from Alan Abrahams.

Saturday
Signing-On begins at 08.00 in the start area.  Please park your bike on your start number.  Oldest machines start first at 09.00.  Please be ready when the marshalls call you to the start.  Dennis Bates will provide a commentary.  The Mayor will start the first machines.

Parental Agreement forms will be available at the start to Sign-On youngsters.

If you wish to ride with a friend on a later number please wait to one side for them.  Please do not wait on the road outside The Friars.

Ride at your own pace.  There is no time schedule and it is not a race.  In your riders' pack you will receive coffee, lunch and tea tickets.  Ride carefully and please be ready to  stop for horses.

There are plenty of petrol stations along the route.  The nearest is less than a mile from The Friars.  Please do not run out of petrol !  If you break down, stay with your machine and wait for the recovery vehicles.  They will follow the entire route.  Do not leave the route or they will not find you.  Please be aware that the recovery vehicles will not be able to return you directly to the start if they pick you up.  They have to follow the route and will, therefore, be the last ones to return to Aylesford.

At the coffee stop (Rare Breeds Centre, Woodchurch) and the lunch stop (Beech Court Garden) please follow the marshalls' instructions.  Parking space will be limited at the busiest times.  First riders will reach Woodchurch at about 10.10.  First riders will reach Beech Court at about 12.00.  The last rider should leave Beech Court by about 14.30.

The evening celebration begins at 19.30.  Food is available for ticket holders.  Tickets are £5 each and must be ordered, in advance, from Alan Abrahams.  We have a band and the music will go on until about 23.00.  When the music finishes please be quiet on the camping field as others may be sleeping and some families will have young children.

Sunday
The show field will open from 09.00.  We ask that you display your machine to the public.  The public attendance helps to pay for the weekend and it is important that we offer them value for money.  Please keep your riding number on your bike.  The event officially finishes at 16.00 and we ask you to display your bike at least from 10.30 until 16.00.

The gymkhana will run if the ground is not too wet.  Please listen for loudspeaker announcements.

Concours judging will begin at 11.00.  Our judge (Cyril Branch) will look at all machines displaying their riding number, including those being displayed on Club stands.

The event closes following the prize-giving.  Prize-giving will begin at 15.30. at 15.30.  We hope that you will all be able to attend.  It is always disappointing when prize winners are not there to receive their awards

Monday
A social run will leave at 10.30 from the marquee.

Food
There is a cafeteria next to the events field.  It is open during the day for drinks, light meals and ice creams.

Breakfast will be served in the Brothers' Refectory each morning and a 'continental' breakfast will be available on Saturday and Sunday morning only.

On Sunday fast food items will be available from vendors on the field.

Children
Well behaved children are always welcome at the West Kent Run !  Please be aware that the site is open to the general public at all times.  Children must not be allowed to ride any motorcycles (or other machines) at any time or in any place throughout the weekend.  They are welcome to bring their bicycles.

Torches
A good idea for campers !

Flags
Please bring a national flag to display on your bike.  The spectating public along the route love to know where you are from.
